TDI Bailout CCR Course Malta

The TDI Bailout CCR course in Malta is an advanced programme for certified CCR divers who want to use a second closed circuit rebreather as bailout / redundancy for open water or overhead diving (wreck or cave environments).

The goal is to develop the skills, procedures and discipline required to plan and execute dives using two CCR units – one as your primary rebreather and the second configured specifically for bailout or back-up mode – up to the level of your existing CCR qualification on both units.

About the TDI Bailout CCR Course

Rebreathers are outstanding tools for deeper and longer dives, reducing the need to carry excessive open circuit cylinders. The trade-off is that bailout requirements can become bulky and complex as depth and decompression obligations increase.

The TDI Bailout CCR course explores an alternative redundancy strategy – using another rebreather as bailout – and trains you to manage the benefits, hazards, planning considerations and emergency procedures involved in that approach.

Guided by experienced TDI CCR instructors, you’ll build on your existing CCR competency and develop a structured, realistic bailout CCR workflow designed for high-demand diving.

On deeper or more complex CCR dives, carrying sufficient open circuit bailout can become heavy, restrictive and operationally messy. A bailout rebreather can offer:

Duration & Training Schedule

Duration: 3 Days

Minimum training requirements include:

• 1 confined water session

• 4 open water training dives

• Minimum 240 minutes total in-water time

Student Prerequisites

To enrol in the TDI Bailout CCR course, you must:

• Minimum age: 18

• Be certified as a mixed gas diver on both the primary CCR and the bailout / back-up CCR

• Provide a verified log of minimum 100 rebreather hours on both units, over a minimum of 50 dives on each unit, with that unit being used as the primary CCR

This course is recommended primarily for advanced mixed gas CCR divers.
