CCR Crossover Course Malta – Train on a New Rebreather Platform
The CCR Crossover course in Malta is designed for divers who are already certified on one closed circuit rebreather and want to transition to a different unit.
Because CCR training is unit-specific, you cannot simply switch machines without formal instruction. Each model has unique assembly procedures, electronics, loop dynamics and emergency protocols. This course focuses on transferring your existing CCR competence to a new platform – efficiently, correctly, and within your current certification limits.
About the CCR Crossover Course
CCR crossover training is built around skill transfer – not repeating basic rebreather theory you already know.
Instead, the course focuses on the practical differences that matter when you change systems:
-
Unit-specific build-up and tear-down procedures
-
Pre-dive checks and failure recognition
-
Loop management and unit behaviour
-
Electronics and setpoint control
-
Emergency and bailout procedures specific to the machine
You will typically crossover at your current qualification level. For example, if you are certified to 40m decompression on your existing unit, the crossover authorises you to dive the new unit to the same 40m level, not deeper.
CCR Units Available for Crossover Training
We offer CCR crossover training in Malta for popular platforms including:
-
JJ-CCR
-
rEvo
-
Divesoft Liberty (back and sidemount)
-
X-CCR
-
FX-CCR
-
Halcyon Symbios
If you are unsure whether your current certification and desired unit are compatible for crossover, contact us and we will advise the correct pathway.
Course Duration & Levels
Course duration depends on the certification level you are crossing over to:
-
3 Days – crossover at 40m level
-
5 Days – crossover at 60m level
-
6 Days – crossover at 100m level
Your crossover authorisation remains within your existing limits – it does not upgrade your depth rating automatically.
Standard Prerequisites
To enrol in a CCR crossover course, you must:
-
Be at least 18 years old
-
Provide proof of existing CCR user-level certification on another rebreather
-
Have documented CCR experience – many agencies expect 25-50 hours on your current unit
-
Have recent CCR diving experience – commonly at least 10 CCR dives in the last 12 months
-
Hold a valid diving medical, where applicable
If you are already a certified CCR diver but are returning after a long break, we may recommend a readiness / evaluation dive before beginning crossover training.
What You Will Learn
Crossover training is specific to the unit you are moving onto. Key focus areas include:
Unit Configuration and Procedures
-
Correct assembly, build-up and tear-down
-
Weighting and equipment setup for the new platform
-
Unit-specific bailout procedures and drills
Electronics and Monitoring
-
Controller operation and PPO2 monitoring
-
Setpoint management and response protocols
-
Unit-specific failure handling and decision making
Maintenance and Reliability
-
Daily care and post-dive maintenance
-
Oxygen cell handling and replacement procedures
-
Scrubber packing and unit-specific consumables management
In-Water Skills and Control
-
Buoyancy, trim and propulsion on the new unit
-
Loop volume management and gas addition control
-
Manual control and problem-solving under instructor supervision
Important Note on Qualification Limits
Completing a crossover does not upgrade your depth limit or certification level. It authorises you to use the new rebreather within your existing limits, at the level you are already qualified for.
If you want to extend depth or decompression capability after the crossover, we can advise the correct progression course based on your platform and certification pathway.
