HMS Trusty Star

HMS Trusty Star, a remarkable relic from World War II, is just one of the captivating wreck dives awaiting exploration in the waters surrounding Malta. Originally a British drifter, this vessel underwent a transformation into a minesweeper before tragically meeting its demise in 1942, succumbing to a mine outside Grand Harbour.

 

Resting at a depth of approximately 90 meters, roughly 3 kilometers off Fort St. Elmo in Valletta, this dive is reserved for the skilled and daring technical trimix divers. The wreck spans an impressive length of 26 meters and rests at a 45-degree angle on its starboard side, nestled upon the sandy seabed. While the boat’s structure remains relatively intact, it is veiled in a delicate layer of silt, adding an air of mystery to the scene.

 

The discovery of the HMS Trusty Star wreck was a momentous occasion for a group of divers in September 2016. Since May 1st, 2019, this historical treasure has been placed under the protection of Heritage Malta, ensuring its preservation for future generations to appreciate.
