The SSI Advanced Open Water course in Malta is the perfect next step after Open Water – designed to build confidence, expand your experience, and unlock more exciting dive sites. Over five adventure dives, you’ll develop real-world skills like navigation and deep diving, while sampling additional specialties based on what excites you most – wrecks, night dives, perfect buoyancy, photography, and more.
This course is ideal if you want more variety, more depth, and more time in the water – without committing to full specialty courses yet.
What’s Involved in the SSI Advanced Open Water Course
Your Advanced Open Water training includes five adventure dives. The course is built around core experience plus choice, so you progress in a structured way while still tailoring the dives to Malta’s conditions and your interests.
Typical structure:

Deep Diving adventure dive

Navigation adventure dive

Three elective adventure dives (chosen based on availability, conditions, and your goals)
Each dive includes a short knowledge briefing and in-water coaching, with the focus on practical improvement – not classroom grind.
What Can I Do with My Certification?
After completion, you’ll earn the SSI Advanced Open Water certification, recognised worldwide. This gives you:

A more confident foundation for future training like Stress & Rescue, or specialities like Wreck, Nitrox, or Perfect Buoyancy
Duration
Typically completed over 2 days, depending on logistics, weather, and which adventure dives you choose. Each dive usually runs around 30-45 minutes, site and profile dependent.
