Mgarr Ix-Xini

This site is located inside the western entrance to an inlet called Mgarr ix-Xini. At the western side of the inlet, a number of rare fish can be seen. Examples as the flying gurnard, the red gurnard, the star-gazer and if lucky, the John Dory. Other species include seabream, scorpionfish, small octopus and large cuttlefish. There are also two caves. On entering the caves, you can see anemones and even some shrimp hidden amongst the walls. The seabed away from the cliff face is of coarse sand, with occasional seagrass. Look out for octopus and small seahorses. If you have trouble with buoyancy, please skip the seahorse area, don’t disturb the sand.

Easily diveable for Open Water divers.
